Reviewing a movie with a topic like this can be though, believe me, I started over and over again, just to get it right .There are so many opinions, so many aspects to talk about.
So I begin with the easier part as always. The cast. Gaining 40 pounds is a big deal not just for Bradley Cooper. He imitaed his workout, listen to the same music and had almost the same, height, weight and shoe size -to get into detail. Impressive enough to start with. Being accompanied by the lovely and very strong Sienna Miller.
Now let`s get into it. We all know what happened at 9/11 we almost all have our own beliefs and opinions around it. I dont want to shy away from it, yet I think in some respects Clint Eastwood did. I first thought of the story of Chris Kyle before I went to the cinema: knowing that the cast as well as Clint had both the best interest in mind. Simply portraying Chris Kyles life as it was, honest, violent and very difficult.
Kyle who is a cowboy to begin with, starts to join the SEALS after 9/11. Always being protective over his little brother, he begins to see the country as such.
Now you could easily say Eastwood tried to ignore the topic all together, as a viewer you see some cruel and very graphic images, are you getting used to them? I wouldt say so.
But then, he tried to only focus on one bad guy, instead of blaming all of them together, which maybe was his chop out after all.
What you need to admit though, is that, after each trip, Kyle has more difficulty to go back as normal as before. Which really shows what a hardship his job must have been.
In the end, it`s tragic.
Not overly focusing on the topic, but more on the camera, music as well as the story, I would need to say its a movie to watch. It made with a certain respect, you dont get many times nowadays.
It`s hard to say, what it is worth or what outcome movies like this can have.
Happy Sunday
